Support for parents
Parenting requires all kinds of skills. There are lots of clubs, activities, events and organisations available to support you and your child or young person to make the most of your community.
For children, a great place to touch base with is your local children's centre. For young people, you can find out about clubs, activities and support from the locality team at your local council.
Parents can get great ideas, information and support from the following places:
- The Family Information Directory is your one stop shop for contact details for groups, services and events for children and families in your local area. You can use it to find ideas for activities for children and families to get involved with and where to find groups in your local area
- Your local childrens centre offers drop ins, activity clubs and support for children and families. You can find your nearest centre online and see what they have to offer, click here for more information. You can also go to your local childrens centre to ask for support if you are experiencing difficulties with children and young people at home
- The Parent Partnership service offers impartial information and advice to support parents to access services and support their families
- Young Minds offer support and advice to any parent worried about a child or young person’s mental health or well being, they also have a free parent helpline for anyone worried about a child or young person’s emotional, behavioural or mental health 0808 802 5544. Parents can get advice on issues such as autism, family relationships, behavioural problems, self harm and eating problems.
- The NSPCC provide support and advice for parents. This includes positive parenting tips, how to talk to children and young people about sex and what to do if you’re worried about a child.
