Luminus partnered with Hinchingbrooke Hospital to give Junior Wardens from two local schools the exciting opportunity to go to Hinchingbrooke Hospital as part of their 999 Club.

The 999 Club is Hinchingbrooke Hospital’s unique initiative that offers local children the opportunity to experience the hospital environment in a fun and informative way. This was first time the Luminus Junior Wardens had got involved and it was an overwhelming success.

The day involved a whistle-stop tour of the hospital’s facilities and gave the Junior Wardens the chance to see areas of the hospital that would otherwise remain a mystery. They visited Accident and Emergency, the Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit, Chapel, Holly Ward and finally to the Dispensary where they got to see the Pharmacy robot. They also got to watch the special 3D distraction TV and watch a plaster cast being put on their teacher; which was a particular highlight for many of the Junior Wardens!

The experience helps children learn about the hospital and alleviate any fears they might have, and show them that there are many different roles within a hospital environment.

Natalie Styles-Hudson, Lead Nurse for Paediatrics and Safeguarding Children at Hinchingbrooke Hospital said: “We were delighted to welcome the Junior Wardens to Hinchingbrooke and help them to find out more about their local hospital. The 999 club is a great learning opportunity for children and also helps to alleviate any fears or anxieties that they may have about coming into hospital.”

The club was the perfect pairing for the Luminus Junior Wardens Scheme, which has been going from strength to strength since launching in an additional three new primary schools this year. As part of this programme, Luminus’ Neighbourhood Wardens hold fun and engaging activity sessions for year 5 pupils every two weeks in their lunchtime, which are designed to equip them with essential life skills.

Madeleine Brown, Luminus Active Citizenship Coordinator, who leads the scheme, commented;

“The Junior Wardens had a fantastic day, and got to learn so much about their local hospital.”

Dr Chan Abraham, Luminus Group Chief Executive, said:

“We’re delighted to be working with Hinchingbrooke Hospital and their 999 Club. It offers a great opportunity for young people to learn more about the hospital environment and all that it encompasses. We are hopeful that, by working closely with these highly dedicated partners in the community, we will be able to make a better future a reality, and see our young people shine. By working in partnership, together, we can make progress along The Road to Renewal towards a better future.”
